White Paper on Meeting the Challenges of the Boomer Brain Drain now available

My white paper, "Meeting the Challenges of the Boomer Brain Drain: An integrated approach," is now available. An annotated outline is below.  You can request your free copy by using the form at the end of this link.

The Situation We Face

The oldest Baby Boomers are already 60. They'll turn 65 in 2011. Since the Baby Boom is the biggest generation in US history, that means that a large part of your valuable senior managers and key staff could head for the exits.

If they do that, they will take their knowledge and relationships with them with them. Some of the people who leave will also be people who are key knowledge connectors in your company. This will create what I call the Boomer Brain Drain.

Dissenting Views

Not everyone agrees that this will be a problem.  Most dissent is based on the idea that Baby Boomers will continue to work beyond retirement age. Whether you agree with the dissenters or not, the potential impact of Boomer Brain Drain is serious enough that you should analyze how it will affect your company and what actions you should begin taking today to deal with it.

Solving the Problem

There are two reasons why this Boomer Brain Drain is a tough problem for many organizations. The first one is that you have to start dealing with the problem before you see any significant affects. The other is that responses to the challenge must come from different parts of the company, all of whom see the issue and solutions differently.

Components of a Solution

The magic is in the mix. Solutions to the Boomer Brain Drain will need to have several different components.  I outline the three major groups of components and talk about the impact and importance of culture.

An Action Plan Outline

Because some solution components have long lead times, you need to start now to assess your situation.  I lay out a timeline for getting started. An important early action is to conduct a Threat Assessment so that you know what you're facing.

Resources for Reading

No single white paper can cover the entire issue of the Boomer Brain Drain. The challenges facing each company will be different. That's why I've added a list of reading resources to help you shape your action plan.
