Working Supervisor's Support Kit

It's sad, but true, that things haven't changed much for supervisors since I was promoted to my first management job, over thirty-five years ago.  One day I was an individual contributor. The next day I was a manager. And I got no training at all for my new supervisory duties.

That's how it is today, too. Three of our children have been promoted to management roles. Not one has received any training in how to supervise the people who work for them.

It's still sink or swim for managers. But, of course, if you sink as a manager, you take your team to the bottom with you.

Companies don't help much. There are dramatic exceptions, but on the whole American businesses spend less than 10 percent of their training budgets on front line supervisor and management training in supervisory skills.

That's why I'm excited about what I have to tell you. I've been training first line bosses for more than a quarter century now. I've done original research. I've spent time with managers. And I've modified my materials and approach along the way, based on what I've learned and on the feedback I've gotten from the managers themselves.

Now I've taken what I've learned and put it into a Working Supervisor's Support Kit. Here's what's in it.

The complete text of my highly rated book, Performance Talk: The One-on-One Part of Leadership, specially modified to be an effective e-book.

A comprehensive workbook of over 100 pages that will help you learn the lessons of the book by putting them to work for you in your workplace.

A complete set of forms, developed by supervisors that I've trained over thirty years, to help you organize your thoughts and improve your analysis of supervisory situations.

A set of pocket reminder cards so you can check out key points while you're on the job.

I'll be releasing the product formally on July 16, but if you'd like a sneak peak at what it will be like, or if you'd like to be notified when the Kit is available, check out the product description page.

And now, back to regular blogging.
