Eight Random Facts about Me
When I turned forty, back in the Pleistocene Era, I engaged a specialist to design a food program that would work for me. At our first meeting he asked me, "What foods will you eat, even if they're not supposed to be on the program?"
Without hesitation I replied, "Ice cream, cheeseburgers and beer."
"OK," he said, "Those are on the program, just watch your portions."
Today I find that the Eight Random Facts fun has hit the cheeseburger point for me. I have been tagged by a whole bunch of people. Because I am late to the party, and most of the people I would tag have already been tagged by others, I'm going to mind my portions, and not tag anyone else.
Now, with that preamble out of the way, here are my eight random facts.
My father was a Lutheran pastor and my mother was a writer.
When I was young I used to cut school to go to the library.
I live in the South by choice. When I moved here, it was like coming home.
I am married to the Princess, Renee, who is also the purveyor of the Perfect Necklace and who is perhaps the finest cook who has ever drawn breath.
My great great grandfather was a very successful mercenary soldier.
I'm a Marine vet and I still stand up when they play the Marine's Hymn.
Besides my parents, I owe most of who I am today to the Bronx High School of Science, the US Marine Corps and playground basketball.
I love museums and "living museums" like battlefields, so when I travel I take extra time to visit them.
There you have it. Have a great weekend.

Now see, Wally, that wasn't so bad.
I see that your great granddad was, by definition, a consultant. He would be proud.

<Giant smile> I never thought of it that way, but that's what he was, indeed. He was one of the "German Gunners," artiillarymen who were the scourge of the Southern soldiers who faced them. He reveled in the science of it all, angles and charges and loads. He went around the world after the War Between the States selling his expertise.
And, by the way, my dad went to seminary in Germantown.
