9/15/07: In case you missed it

There are lots of interesting stories that come across my screen every week, but that don't make it into the blog or newsletter. Here are some for your weekend reading pleasure. This week I'm pointing you to stories about how awful it is to fly these days, two article about the effects of Boomer aging, how many of the people you consider hiring lie on their applications, and whether the age of casual computer gaming is at hand.

From the Wall Street Journal: Cranky Skies: Fliers Behave Badly Again As 9/11 Era Fades
"For a brief time after Sept. 11, 2001, civility seemed to reign in the skies above America."We had the most humble passengers ever," says Frank Slade, a 16-year flight attendant who now works for Northwest Airlines. "'Yes, ma'am.' 'No, sir.' "Today, the picture isn't so pretty. Mr. Slade says he has been verbally assaulted by passengers twice in the past six months, and he had a third insubordinate flier ejected before the plane took off. "They're not restrained at all in manner," he says"

From the New York Times: The Graying of the Web
"Technology investors and entrepreneurs are starting a host of new social networking sites aimed at baby boomers and graying computer users."

From CNN Money: Forever young
"Boomers are imagining the American dream all over again, a new Money Magazine survey reveals. Topping the agenda: closer relationships and more fun. And, oh yeah, they want to change the world."

From The Journal Record: Most employers think applicants lie on resume
"Be wary of the job applicant whose resume seems too good to be true. For that matter, don’t trust the average worker, either, results from a recent survey by the National Association of Professional Employer Organizations (NAPEO) suggest. The group, which represents companies that do human resource chores for small businesses, found that the majority of the businesses surveyed believe employment applicants are lying to them on their resumes."

From the Dallas Morning News: GameStop takes aim at casual gamers
"With video game sales skyrocketing and hundreds of new stores opening every year, it may not seem like GameStop Corp. needs much of an overhaul. But the Grapevine-based retailer made it clear during its annual managers' conference in Las Vegas this week that it believes the age of the casual gamer is at hand."
