This week "midweek" is actually the day after Christmas which means two things. First, there are far less blog posts than usual. And second, even if there were the same number, I've been spending Christmas with loved ones and not on my usual persistent hunt for great posts.
So I asked the question mother drummed into my head as I was growing up: "What good can we make of this?" Mom was right once again. The situation offers me the opportunity to point you to two very rich veins in this wonderful business blogosphere that you will enjoy mining. First, though, here are two current carnivals.
The Journal Blog hosts the latest edition of Carnival of the Capitalists. And The Compensation Force hosts the most recent Carnival of Human Resources.
And now (drum roll, please) two blogs I think you must check out if the practice of leadership is important to you. Both have excellent individual posts but I'm sending you there because each blogger is adept at stringing several posts together to add value. In both cases, we have a working definition of "synergy." The whole is more than simply the sum of the individual posts.
Jim Stroup is the brains and heart behind the blog Managing Leadership. He has a genius for bringing different strands of thought together with an international flavor. He also writes "series" of blogs. Here's a pointer to his series on "The Socratic Method." My made-up title doesn't do this series justice. Check it out, see what it leads you toward, and enjoy.
I've pointed you to a post titled "Socratic genius." Start from there, poke around a bit, and see what wisdom you can find.
My other pointer is to Steve Roesler's blog, All Things Workplace. Steve has a genius for inviting comments that makes his blog richer. Since September, 2007, he's been creating a wonderful series on change. There are over thirty posts in the series. I'm pointing you to the first. Be sure to read the posts and the comments.
That's a wrap for this week. I hope you had a marvelous holiday and that you're using the less intense times we have around this part of the year to enrich relationships, reflect on the past and future and just relax a bit.

Wally, that is hugely kind of you.
Now I'm feeling guilty about slacking off on Christmas week while (like you) enjoying the family. I don't feel like changing a thing
Looking forward to re-joining the Land of RSS after getting our daughter back up to NYC on Thursday.
Enjoy your gang!

Wally, thank you for you generous reference and kind words. To be paired with someone of Steve's caliber by someone of yours is more than I expect or deserve. It is greatly appreciated.
I look forward to more of your thinking and writing in the New Year. In the meanwhile, allow me to wish you and yours a great celebration this weekend.
