Nina Simosko tagged me with one of those memes. I usually avoid games of tag but this one was about books and reading. Here's my challenge from Nina, followed by the responses.

List the books you are reading

First time through

Ike by Michael Korda
Sharpe's Revenge by Bernard Cornwell

Re-reading

The Science of Success by Charles G. Koch

I'm on a short story kick just now so I'm dipping into several of my favorite collections: Ernest Hemingway's Collected Stories; Selected Stories by Andre Dubus; and Dr. Brodie's Report by Jorge Louis Borges are sitting by my chair just now.

Next book in the To Review List

Growing Great Employees by Erika Andersen

Now for the rest of the challenge

Pick up the closest book to hand
Open to page 123
Find the 5th sentence
Post the next 3 sentences

The book is Selected Stories by Andre Dubus

"She was happy, as she had been dancing to those songs that articulated her feelings and sent them flowing back into her blood, her heart. This time she didn't want to hold anyone, not even love anyone. She wanted to fly: soar away from everything, go higher than rain."

I'll pass on the tagging part because by now almost everyone on the planet will have been tagged. So what are you reading?

    Wally,

This is a great list. I'm going to look at "Ike" and "Sharpe's Revenge."

I purchased Koch's book at your recommendation. Unfortunately, though, the version I got can't be transfered to my PDA, so I'm trying to resolve that. When I have, it will show up on my reading list too, and I'm looking forward to it.

    Wally -

Glad you've discovered Growing Great Employees, and hope you enjoy it. (And CC, thank you - I'm thrilled you're finding it useful!)

Here's my response to your challenge:

"People unknowingly sabotage their own work when they withhold help or information from others or try to undermine them lest they become more successful or get more credit than "me." Cooperation is alien to the ego, except when there is a secondary motive. The ego doesn't know that the more you include others the more smoothly things flow and the more easily things come to you."

Amen! (That's from Eckhart Tolle's "A New Earth")
