When Ernest Hemingway was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1954, he began his acceptance speech this way.
"No writer who knows the great writers who did not receive the Prize can accept it other than with humility."
I felt a bit like Papa Hemingway on a much smaller scale when the people at HR World listed Three Star Leadership as number ten among "The Top 100 Management and Leadership Blogs That All Managers Should Bookmark." I'm honored to be named to the list. I'm thankful for the honor. But I'm humbled knowing about all the great blog writers that didn't get a mention.
That's not a knock on the people who put together the HR World list. It's a good and thoughtful one. And their list pointed me to several blogs I wasn't aware of or hadn't checked recently. So I thank them for the recognition and for all the great pointers.
That's the spirit of this blog. Here are pointers to some of the blogs that frequently educate me, inspire me, and make me think. I offer them to you in the alphabetical order created by my blog reader.
Wally's Comment: I love Nina's blog because she writes from the perspective of a working executive who's concerned about making the working world a better place.
Wally's Comment: Steve Roesler is one of the best bloggers around at raising questions about our working life that generate insightful discussion. I read this blog for Steve's posts, but also for the many provocative comments.
Wally's Comment: No one understands the concepts and the details of compensation better than Ann Bares. No one else I've seen writes about them nearly as well.
Wally's Comment: I pride myself on my ability to come up with references to history and literature, but I'm only on the Junior Varsity compared to Michael Wade. Not only does he remind me of things I've forgotten and lead me to things I never knew, he also writes the kind of lucid posts that pack a lot of wisdom into a confined space.
Wally's Comment: As a general rule, I don't spend much time reading blogs that mostly answer questions from readers. The exception is the Evil HR Lady's blog. She gets great questions. She answers them with a mix of knowledge and common sense that is hardly common. And she attracts a bunch of smart commenters who add value.
Wally's Comment: It's always fun to read Rowan Manahan's posts, but entertainment itself is never the point. Rowan has a keen eye for the important issues and their quaint absurdities, and he writes with an Irish flair that I love.
Wally's Comment: Kris Dunn has this blog, and Fistful of Talent, and writes for Workforce Management. I read them all, but I prefer the HR Capitalist because it's the most "Kris." He surveys the HR landscape with a professional eye then writes about it in a way that makes helps you see HR issues in the larger contexts of business and society.
Wally's Comment: Erika Andersen is a very savvy businessperson, a remarkably good writer, and a generous person. I discovered her when I reviewed her book, Growing Great Employees. Then I discovered her blog, where she shares her thoughts and her discoveries. I wish I'd found the blog sooner.
That's a list of blogs that I really like that didn't make the latest list of great blogs. It's also a reminder to me to update the blogroll. What blogs have you discovered that the rest of us should know about?

You offer me many wonderful insights and I sincerely appreciate all the hard work that your blog requires having only recently started my own.
