When I came back from overseas in 1966 it was not a good to be young, in uniform and in America. My Marine uniform identified me to many on the campus where I was stationed as a "baby killer."

Today, when men and women return from service in Iraq and Afghanistan they get a very different reception. We thank them for their service, which is a good thing.

But words are not enough. We need to say thank-you with what we do as well.

Julie Ferguson, whose posts on HR Web Café make it one of my regular stops, offers an excellent post titled "Why not hire a vet this week?"

As usual, Julie gives you pointers to a number of resources about hiring vets, helping them re-enter jobs they left, and supporting them in other ways.

As an Air Force retiree, I appreciate this entry very much. When I get home from work, I'll try to remember to link to this post from my blog.

Speaking of work, yours is one of the blogs I refer to frequently in my job here at NC State University's Industrial Extension Service. I've called folks' attention to several of the items you've posted. We recently started a corporate blog, "NC State of Business," with several of our members contributing. The URL, if you'd like to take a look, is http://ncstateofbusiness.ies.ncsu.edu/.

    Thanks again,

Thanks for sharing that site, Gary.  Since I'm based on Charlotte, I'll sure want to check it out.

You might want to jump over to Julie Ferguson's post and thank her for the information on hiring vets. She's the one who pulled the resources together.
