Despite what you might think about reading recent books and articles about leadership …
Leadership is a kind of work.
It is not a state of being.
It is not more important than management or supervision.
It is not something you can do alone.
It is not magic.
It is not charisma.
It is not safe.
It is not something you learn from books.
Leadership is a kind of work.
Boss's Bottom Line
Leadership is one of the three kinds of work you have to do as a boss. The other two are management and supervision.

I agree leadership is work, not a state of being. You can learn from books how to more effectively lead/manage. You can use charisma to aid in leading/managing. But leadership is action toward some aim and is judged based on the effectiveness of producing results toward that aim.

Thanks for adding to the discussion, I think you can learn about leadership et al from book. But to learn them, you have to do them. It's like dance or riding a bike. The learning and the doing are intertwined.
