Every year at this time writers, editors, and bloggers succumb to the primeval urge to create a best or worst list for the year just past. I've been scanning them for the last month and here are my picks. Some are serious, some are funny, and some think they're serious, but are really funny. I'm listing all but one without comment.
From Fortune: Dumbest moments in business 2010
From the Washington Post: Who is 2010 Leader of the Year?
From Portfolio: The Greatest Hits of 2010
From C4LPT: Jane Hart's Top 100 articles from 2010
From HBS Working Knowledge: HBS Faculty on 2010's Biggest Business Developments
From the Financial Post: The top 10 CEO departures of 2010
From Bert Decker: The Top Ten Best (and Worst) Communicators of 2010
From Business Week: 2010 in Review
From the NY Times: The Lives They Lived
"As 2010 comes to a close, we
bring you our annual idiosyncratic collage of stories about people who died over
the last year. Some of them were quite famous. Some lived primarily private
lives. And most lived, by choice or circumstance, in the realm of the
little-bit-famous. Though these essays do mark deaths, we like to think of them
as a collection of narratives that celebrate lives."
This is my favorite of all the "looking back" lists because it reminds me of our humanity, the importance of relationships and the fragility of fame.
Boss's Bottom Line
Jack Welch had it right: "In the end, it's all about the people."
