For the last two years, John Hunter has conducted a Management Blog Review at his excellent Curious Cat Management Improvement Blog. John asks other bloggers (like me) to review one or more blogs to give you an idea of their strengths and why you may want to add them to your regular reading. Here are my reviews of four excellent blogs.

Management Excellence
Art Petty writes Management Excellence. His last book was titled Practical Lessons in Leadership and that could be the title of his blog, too. What I like about this blog is that Art offers practical observations and suggestions for the man or woman who's there in the trenches trying to make it all work. Every Monday he does a special feature called "Leadership Caffeine," which will be the title of his next book. I chose one of those for a sample post: "A Leader’s Resolutions are Calendar Blind."

QAspire
Tanmay Vora is in charge of quality assurance for a software services company based in India. His blog gives me a perspective on how broad the range of quality concerns can be and how quality assurance connects to the rest of business and life. I chose two sample posts for this blog. "11 Things Project Managers & Leaders Should Never Do" is a good representation of what you'll find here. The second is "Gems from Subroto Bagchi on Leadership," which represents the posts where Tanmay introduces me to a writer or source I would not find otherwise.

Maximize Possibility
Chris Young of the Rainmaker Group writes this blog that I read because of his frequent posts that point me to other resources. Every Monday Chris offers us "Fab Five Blog Picks of the Week" pointing you to five great posts from the prior week. Also weekly is "Possibility Maximizer" that points you to a leadership resource. For examples, I'm pointing you to a typical Fab Five post and a typical Possibility Maximizer.

Winning Workplaces
Winning Workplaces is a not-for-profit organization that helps small and mid-sized businesses develop better workplaces. They also conduct the search for each year's top small business workplaces and, as a result, they have a lot of data about companies that are doing extraordinary things in the workplace. Mark Harbeke writes the blog that shares those specific practices with the rest of us. For a sample post, check out, "How Tradition Shapes the Workplace Culture for Four of Our 2010 Top Small Company Workplaces."

Those are my reviews for this year. Thanks to John Hunter for coordinating this novel and helpful event. Be sure to check out his Curious Cat Management Improvement blog.
