Here's some of my writing on the web last week. There were posts on how the net has changed the world, what business can learn from the military, the fog of management, and Bill Ford. There were also pointers to leadership reading, business blogs, top talent development posts, and top posts about the workplace, as well as my Boss's Tips of the Day.

7/24/11: Leadership Reading to Start Your Week
Here are five choice
articles from the business schools, the business press and major consulting
firms to start off your work week. I'm pointing you to articles about learning
from Southwest Airlines, some issues with telecommuting, teacher
pay-for-performance, self-monitoring, and how much magic is in the CEO role.
Mr. Fix-It
When the washing machine broke, Chris didn't know how to fix
it, but he figured it out with a little help.
What to learn from the military
200 years ago military organizations began
to struggle with the problem of how to keep a large organization's operations
aligned while allowing operational autonomy. That was the subject of our
Leadership Chat on Twitter on 26 July 2011 with Lisa Petrilli and Steve Woodruff
and me as guest host. Here are the key points with pointers to resources.
7/27/11: A Midweek Look at the Independent Business
Blogs
Every week I
select five excellent posts from this week's independent business blogs. This
week, I'm pointing you to posts on framing discussions, the difference between
vision and goals, big ideas and the evidence to support them, personal knowledge
management, and a real value statement.
The Fog of Management
Clausewitz described the "fog of war." There's a
"fog of management," too.
The Other Guy at Ford
Alan Mulally is getting a lot of deserved praise for
Ford's turnaround, but let's save some of the applause for Bill Ford.
Boss's Tips of the Day from This Week
These short tips for bosses are based on Wally's Working Supervisor's Support Kit
. Follow the link for more on
each tip.
Autonomy demands accountability
My posts at Results vs. Activities on Talent Development
Talent Development is All about Judgement
I was going over possible
articles for my weekly pointers to "Top Talent Development Posts" when it hit
me. There were posts about programs and trends and technology, but one thing was
missing. It's perhaps the most important thing: judgement. Without good
judgement, all the supporting systems in the world are pretty useless.
7/28/11: Top Talent Development Posts this Week
Every week, I review blogs
that cover talent development to find the very best talent development posts.
This week, you'll find pointers to pieces about losing top talent, coaching in
talent development, eliminating boring training videos, pre-employment
assessments, and hiring and retaining valuable workers.
My posts at Toolbox for HR on People and the Changing Workplace
7/29/11: Weekend Workplace Reading
Every week I identify a few interesting
posts for your weekend reading about the world where we work and live. This week
I'm pointing you to an article about working alone.
My free, email only Three Star Leadership Letter was on "Gene Autry."
When you follow me on Twitter you'll receive a stream of pointers to interesting blog posts, articles, and resources throughout each business day.
Client Projects
I'm writing blog posts for one client. I'm ghostwriting a book for successful businessman about what works in his industry and coaching others through the process of writing and publishing their first book.
If you want to get a book done or improve your performance as a boss, let's talk about options. My coaching calendar currently has space open.
