If you're a boss, you know that every day is a challenge to do better. This tip is based on the same research I used to develop my programs and the Working Supervisor's Support Kit .
Make the Rounds
Check in with your team members at least once a day. Ask about concerns or problems. Coach and encourage. Listen for issues. Help them.
Your team members deserve your undivided attention at least once a day. Make the rounds.
If you find these tips helpful, you should consider
purchasing my Working Supervisor's Support Kit.

Agree with the checking in at least once a day - but that is just getting up to the plate...
We need to show that we care about them - the person... If there are pictures in their cube, we need to know their names... If their daughter is a competitive dancer and they are proud of it - we need to ask about it...
Employees spend more time with us in the workplace - then they do with their families... I am not saying we need to be great friends and go out for drinks on weekends - but everyone wants and needs connections in the workplace... We all know that people leave managers - not jobs - and connecting with our employees is part of our obligation as managers...

I have to disagree a little, Mike. I agree that simply making the rounds is "getting up to the plate," but you can care about people, but you have to show it and making the rounds is a discipline that helps make sure you do. Thanks for adding to the conversation.

Good point on creating the habit... You can't get a hit - if you do not get up to bat...

Well said, Mike, you made my point better than I did.
