If you're a boss, you know that every day is a challenge to do better. This tip is based on the same research I used to develop my programs and the Working Supervisor's Support Kit .

Action and Reflection

The best bosses are active, moving forward, making progress, getting results and gaining experience. That experience will deliver the most value for you if you also make time to reflect.

Reflect on what worked and what didn't and how you'll do things in the future. Reflect on your people and how you can make them more productive and help them grow. Reflect on your strengths and how to use them. Reflect on your weaknesses and what to do about them.

    Hi Wally - this is a great tip! Leadership happens at speed and as much as I think we might like to slow things down now and then, the best leaders are those who adjust on the fly. It can be tough to learn - a bit like when you first start driving on the highway but with practice it gets easier!

      Thanks, Katy. You're right, it does get better with time, but one of the things we rarely tell new bosses is that it's a fairly long time. Usually move than a year to get the basics under control and more than a decade to achieve mastery.
